These days developers are in such high demand that the best will have a seemingly unlimited number of opportunities to choose from, and many developers I speak to have 10+ approaches per day about new roles. With this much demand, how do companies ensure they stand out from the crowd?<\/h5>\n<p>Sure, the Facebook\u2019s, Google\u2019s and Amazon\u2019s are all well-renowned for attracting world-class talent, and more often than not a brand name in itself can bring a flock of CVs to your door. But what about the start-ups of the world? Or the charities? The\u00a0lesser known\u00a0companies that need to be at the bleeding edge of tech just to survive? Arguably, for them attracting the best talent can be the difference between failure and success. So how do they attract the best?<\/p>\n<p>With this is mind, I put together a short survey to send out to over 1000 leading developers, across all tech stacks,\u00a0contract\u00a0and perm, to answer one simple question:<\/p>\n<h3>What really attracts developers to new opportunities?<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1952 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/most-important-factor-when-considering-new-role.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1894\" height=\"1199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/most-important-factor-when-considering-new-role.png 1894w, https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/most-important-factor-when-considering-new-role-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/most-important-factor-when-considering-new-role-1024x648.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/most-important-factor-when-considering-new-role-768x486.png 768w, https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/most-important-factor-when-considering-new-role-1536x972.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1894px) 100vw, 1894px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly enough, whilst Tech Stack was the overall winner, this largely depended on the level of the developer; Junior Developers were more likely to factor in Location, whilst at the other end of the scale, CTO\u2019s and Development Managers cared more about the Level of the Role.<\/p>\n<p>When asked \u2018How important is it when moving roles to move up the development career ladder?\u2019, Lead Developers found this most important, with CTO\u2019s caring the least about moving on up.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what technologies developers would like to be working with, here are the top 8:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Machine Learning<\/li>\n<li>Big Data<\/li>\n<li>AWS<\/li>\n<li>Scala<\/li>\n<li>.Net<\/li>\n<li>AI<\/li>\n<li>Apache Spark<\/li>\n<li>MongoDB<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other high-performers included ElasticSearch, Haskell, React, NodeJS, Hadoop, IoT and Python.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1951\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/how-important-are-benefits-to-developers.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1904\" height=\"1127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/how-important-are-benefits-to-developers.png 1904w, https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/how-important-are-benefits-to-developers-300x178.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/how-important-are-benefits-to-developers-1024x606.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/how-important-are-benefits-to-developers-768x455.png 768w, https:\/\/www.lafosse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/how-important-are-benefits-to-developers-1536x909.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1904px) 100vw, 1904px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u200bWith Flexible and Home Working as clear winners, this also varied greatly by level, with the most important to each being:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Junior Developers &#8211; Holidays<\/li>\n<li>Developers &#8211; Flexible Hours<\/li>\n<li>Senior Developers &#8211; Work from Home<\/li>\n<li>Development Managers &#8211; Flexible Hours<\/li>\n<li>CTO\u2019s &#8211; Pension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Funnily enough, you can\u2019t just put out office food and drinks and expect millennials to flock to your desks \u2013 it was actually Senior Devs and above that this bonus appealed to most!<\/p>\n<p>CTO\u2019s and Development managers certainly think so \u2013 however everyone below either chose \u2018Important, but just to feel like I\u2019m progressing\u2019 or \u2018It\u2019d be nice, but not necessary\u2019.
